Human bone analysis

Work on early medieval skull from Brownslade cemetry. Osteological analysis is undertaken by Alison Sables (MSc Human Osteology & Funerary Archaeology, University of Sheffield). She has recently undertaken work on the Iron Age skeleton found beneath the Newport medieval ship, Gwent; the burial assemblage from the early medieval cemetery at Brownslade, Pembrokeshire; and 19th century skeletal remains from a graveyard at Manorbier, Pembrokeshire.

Services provided

  • Site visits to advise and report on human bone finds
  • Skeletal excavation
  • Post-excavation skeletal analysis, including sex, age,
    stature and pathologies
  • Cremation assessment
  • Radiocarbon dating and nitrogen and DNA analyses can be arranged through other laboratories
