Developing Excellence in Learning and Teaching
Key developments in terms of the University’s academic provision will be delivered through its academic departments; the powerhouses that will respond to external and internal drivers to deliver an innovative and relevant curriculum for today’s community of learners.
The University’s strengths lie in the areas of Education, Humanities, and the Arts. However, a revitalised academic offering will create a stronger and more attractive range of provision in order to underpin Third Mission activities. The portfolio offers the new University a strong platform from which to develop quality research-led undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to extend its offering beyond campus boundaries.
Learning and Teaching at the University will focus upon providing an environment that maximises learning opportunities for all students – those on and off campus. The strategy addresses the six key headings identified by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) of:
- enhancing the student experience
- staff development and training
- recognising and rewarding teaching excellence
- innovation in learning and teaching
- enhancing graduate skills and employability
- engagement with WAG, HEFCW and the Higher Education Authority’s priorities.
The development of new programmes of study and their delivery and assessment will keep as their guiding principles the need for inclusivity, cultural diversity and global citizenship in order to address:
- the widening access agenda
- a changing student cohort
- international students
- national legislation.
