A: The University of Wales Lampeter and Trinity University College Carmarthen received Her Majesty’s approval, through her Privy Council, to form the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
On the 18 November 2010 the Royal Seal was applied to the University’s Charter - the oldest in England and Wales outside the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge – to officially create the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Q2: I applied / registered for a degree at the University of Wales Lampeter OR Trinity University College Carmarthen.
A1: Will I still study at Lampeter OR Carmarthen?
If you applied to either UW Lampeter or Trinity you will be joining the new University and will study on the campus to which you applied.
A2: Will I get the same degree at the end of the course?
Students will continue to graduate with a degree from the University of Wales - just as they did in the past. The internationally recognised University of Wales degree will be awarded through the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Q3: I am studying at one of UWL/Trinity's partner colleges in the UK. How will the change affect me?
A: The partnership that existed between your college and UWL or Trinity, will continue with the new University. However, as a student of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David you will have access to library and student support facilities at the University, including access to a wide range of online resources and student services including the opportunity to apply for international student scholarships.
Q4: I am International Student, will this change affect my immigration status?
All international students are required to have a confirmed offer of a place to study at a sponsor institution (even if this is conditional on the eventual outcome of your course) in order to be able to obtain a visa to study in the UK. Students studying for less than 6 months will be issued with a student visitor letter if there is no community based work related to their studies, all other students will apply for a Tier 4 visa.
For the 2010-11 academic year, these offers (which include the Confirmation of Acceptance to Study (CAS) numbers necessary for a visa application) are being issued by Trinity University College or University of Wales Lampeter, depending on the location of the course of study. For the 2011/12 academic year, your offer will be issued by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for all courses offered on either of the Carmarthen campus or the Lampeter campus.
The University’s UK based partner institutions will continue to act as sponsors for students studying at their campuses and will therefore provide their own offer letters and related CAS numbers as necessary.
