Actively responding to the needs of Wales and its people, our mission focuses on promoting the use of Welsh in a variety of vocational contexts, through teaching, training and research.
This is clearly shown in the range of courses we offer. which include an MA in the Study of Bilingualism, a certificate and diploma in Professional Communication and various options for those learning the language at all levels.
Interactive online provision is available, together with classroom based courses throughout Carmarthenshire, and a number of residential language courses and courses in subtitling are held on the Lampeter campus.
Key to the work of the School is CAIACh, the Centre for Language Study, Education and Community created in partnership with IAITH: the Language Planning Centre. Building on the strengths and experiences of both parties, the new Centre offers a specialist service which will support training and educational needs in the field of language planning in Wales.
Supporting the enhancement of our Welsh heritage in a global context, is another key element of the school’s work and our distance MA in Celtic Studies attracts students from all over the world. The popular MA in Bilingualism and Multilingualism is now available via a distance learning option as of 2011. The School has a growing number of MPhil and PhD students and our experienced staff are renowned for their publications on Welsh language and literature and are recognised authorities in their chosen fields.
Also located within the School is the Translation Unit, responsible for all internal translation work and the monitoring of the Welsh Language Scheme.
Our distinctive and unique academic portfolio continues to expand and develop, in part through close links with further education colleges and local agencies and organisations. Through our wide range of learning and training opportunities we look forward to making a significant contribution to the creation of a bilingual Wales.

Proverb of the Week
Un celwydd yn dad i gant.
One untruth often leads to a string of lies, or as this
Welsh proverb literally states: one lie is the father of a hundred lies.
