What our Students Think

Rachel Hemmings Rachel Hemmings, JH Theology/Religious Studies

This is like no other University, and I doubt I would have achieved so much elsewhere. The support here has enabled me to get marks I never thought I would be capable of. There is always someone to ask for help and advice, the lecturers know who you are and are open and approachable. It makes a real difference. The wide choice of modules available each year means you can study what really interests you so you don’t get bored. It’s small size means making friends is easy, in halls, in class and out and about, and the school does go out of its way to welcome new students (I particularly recommend the cheese and wine event in the first week of the year!).

What I like about this University is the fact that it is quite small when compared to others; this means that a relationship is formed quickly with staff members and other students in your class. The school has an open door policy which is fantastic when you need help with essays or want to discuss anything said in lectures. The school's modules are wide ranging and I enjoyed learning about all different aspect of religions. We also were given the opportunity to experience seeing these religions being practiced. During my time at the University I went on trips to a Gurdwara, Buddhist groups and also to visit a Hindu community. It’s not just about reading and learning about religion, but about experiencing what you have read and been taught.
