Academic Interests

My research interest lies in the area of first century Christianity. This involves a multi-discipline approach, combining Greek linguistics with textual criticism of early manuscripts and a historical study of Second Temple Judaism. I have focused especially on the text of Luke’s work (Gospel and Acts) and in examining the many variant readings have come to the conclusion that the text of Codex Bezae, an early manuscript generally rejected in the current editions of the Greek New Testament, represents most closely Luke’s words and intentions. The main reason is the presence of many allusions to 1st century Jewish traditions that are absent from all other Greek manuscripts. My study of the Greek text is informed by the linguistic discipline of Discourse Analysis, which looks at language above the level of the sentence.
