Background
Graham leads the International Programme in Outdoor Education and manages the Resource Base at Trinity College. He is a qualified teacher with over 20 year’s experience of working in the outdoors and has managed outdoor education departments within mainstream and special schools. Through his involvement with young people on the fringes of society and those excluded form education, Graham’s professional focus has been on the development of “alternative curriculum” opportunities and the promotion of resilience skills via the medium of outdoor education. He has worked extensively as a freelance instructor throughout the UK, Europe and South East Asia. With a specific interest in personal and social development through journeying, he has led expeditions in the French and Swiss Alps, Patagonia, Canada, Honduras and Thailand. He holds BCU level 4 coaching awards in canoeing, sea kayaking and surfing, level 3 kayak and level 2 competition. Holding mountaineering and climbing qualifications, he was until recently an active member of the British Mountaineering Council’s Youth and Training Committee and the Home Valley Mountain Rescue Team. He is also a swift water rescue technician, with considerable experience of leading groups in caves and mines and a trained mountain bike leader. Graham is looking forward to the opportunity to gain Accredited Practitioner Status of the IOL and to commence studying on the MA course later in the year.
