Bill Krouwel is a senior lecturer in outdoor and experiential learning in the Centre for Outdoor Education Studies. Following a career in HR management, he moved into outdoor learning in the early 1980s, and has facilitated outdoor-based programmes for adults and young people across Europe and in Singapore and the United States. His research interests focus on the outdoors as a medium for human development, and on the interface between the outdoors and other potentially developmental media including the arts, theatre and music.. He teaches on the MA Outdoor Education and BA Outdoor Education (Single and Joint Hons) degrees. He has a very active interest in designing and delivering programmes which reflect his research interests, and in the interface between activity and reflection. He has published books and articles in the UK and abroad and is a Fellow of the Institute of Organisational Learning and a Chartered Secretary. His current action research commitment includes open-outcomes development programmes for managers and the British contextualisation of the Czech Dramaturgy approach to mixed-methods development training, of which he is the leading UK advocate and exponent. He is an active designer of development exercises.
