DirectorBackground
Dr. Andy Williams is the director of the Centre for Outdoor Education Research He has been involved with outdoor learning for over twenty five years and has taught in higher education in Australia and the UK. His research interests focus on the nature and meaning of outdoor education teaching and learning and the study of outdoor education as cultural practice. He is the programme coordinator for the MA Outdoor Education and BA Outdoor Education (Single and Joint Hons) degrees. He retains an active coaching role in mountaineering, rock climbing, kayaking and caving and a passion for scrambling. He has published articles in the UK and abroad and is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His current research interests include the constructed nature of student learning, the impacts of a solo experience and a DADS widening access project in the local community.
