Careers - Case Studies

Allison Davies

"Having completed a BA (Hons) EYE at Trinity College my career has progressed immensely. I am currently teaching at Coleg Ceredigion and am the Course Co-ordinator for the Early Years courses - CACHE level 1, 2 and 3.

During my time at Trinity my passion for early years grew and provided me with an underpinning knowledge of how young children's holistic development can be enhanced by not just PLAYING but realising the importance of a child centred approach. This was only possible with the support and immense knowledge of the staff which also highlighted their passion, research and commitment. As a result their passion has had an immense influencing factor in my own practice.

Having completed the Early Years Degree at Trinity I had a fundamental need to progress and pass what I had learnt and acquired onto others. In so doing I have gained a PGCE at Cardiff University and am now enjoying a fulfilled teaching career. My passion for early years was always there from a young age but the degree course gave me the opportunity to fulfil a life long ambition to teach others as passionate as myself."

Children with a Disability Coordinator NCH Wales

I was one of the first intake of Flexible Learning Route students (or Flexis as we were called!) on the BA EYE programme at Trinity. This was a difficult but excellent route to higher study – it meant I could carry on working as an NNEB in a nursery and study in the evenings and at the weekend. Althought it was very difficult at times, the staff were so enthusiastic and encouraged us to keep going.

As the course progressed, so did I and I began to think there might be other careers for me. Immediately after graduating I obtained a job as key worker coordinating services for families with disabilities with NCH Cymru. It is interesting and worthwhile work and gives me great satisfication. I was asked to give a presentation in my interview – I was really glad that college assignments had required me to do that too over the three years!

An important part of my work with NCH Cymru i offering emotional support to children and families. I also run courses for parents with children with challenging behaviours. One crucial thing that happened to me in Trinity was the raising of my confidence – confidence to talk, to discuss, to question, to debate, and to research.
