Background

Samantha grew up in New Quay, Ceredigion where she still lives. She read Classics at Cambridge followed by an M.A. in the Teaching and Practice of Creative Writing at Cardiff University. Samantha has published two collections of poems, Rockclimbing in Silk (Seren, 2001) and Not In These Shoes (Picador, 2008) which was shortlisted for Wales Book of the Year 2009.  

Poems from both her books were chosen for inclusion in the Forward Anthology 2002 and 2009. Awarded a Hawthornden Fellowship in 2005, she is the first Welsh poet to reach the Picador list. Samantha runs regular ‘Writing Surgeries’ at the university.

What are writing surgeries?

During a half hour session you will receive:

  • individual critical feedback on your work - poetry or prose
  • strategies to help you develop and improve your writing
  • techniques to discern how to craft your drafts into polished work

When?

Every Thursday 2-3pm during Semester 1 and Semester 2, starting Thursday 13th October 2011.
