Trinity Saint David Student wins the Wilfred Owen Association bursary
18.10.2011
Congratulations to Ros Hudis, a MA Creative and Script Writing student at the University and the 2011 winner of the The Wilfred Owen Association bursary.
The bursary is awarded to an aspiring poet who would like to attend a creative writing course in Ty Newydd, but who is unable to do so because of his or her financial circumstances.
Ros lives in Bontnewydd near Tregaron with her partner and two daughters. She began life with the intention of becoming a writer, but got sidetracked into a musical career, spending the last twenty years working as a professional accordionist and composer for theatre.
She says:
“I feel very honoured and delighted to receive this year's Wilfred Owen Bursary. This is not just a personal success, but also a success for Trinity Saint David and a reflection on the excellent tuition I've received as a student on the MA in Creative and Script Writing at Lampeter.
Dr Dic Edwards, Creative Writing Lecturer at the University added:
“This is great news for Creative Writing at Trinity Saint David Lampeter. Ros has grown as a writer since she began her MA and her award is an affirmation of the value of the course.
As well as the bursary she has begun to be published by leading poetry magazines. I think she will continue to develop and become an important writer.
She has told me how grateful she is to the university and in particular to our Poetry Fellow Samantha Wynne Rhydderch whose help has been invaluable”.
The Wilfred Owen Association was formed in 1989 to commemorate the life and work of the poet who died in the final week of the First World War, and whose work, as time goes on, seems to have more and more of an influence on those who come after him.
The WOA promotes and encourage an awareness and appreciation of Owen’s poetry; and offers practical support for students of literature and future poets, through links with education and support for literary foundations.
Note to Editor
- The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is working with Swansea Metropolitan University, Coleg Sir Gâr, Pembrokeshire College and Coleg Ceredigion to create a dual sector university. This means that the institutions will work as a group to provide progression routes and choices for students as well as programmes of study that respond to the needs of employers in the region.
