Lecturers Iwan Bala and Dr Menna Elfyn collaborate on new show
06.01.2012
Two of Wales’ biggest names from the visual arts and writing worlds are collaborating on a new exhibition with a difference. Iwan Bala and Dr Menna Elfyn have joined forces for a new exhibition, entitled Field-notes, which opens in Carmarthen tomorrow before touring, takes maps as its starting point and many of the finished pieces are reminiscent of a writer’s jotting book.
Maps have always been a source of inspiration for Iwan Bala and his new mixed media pieces not only focus on Dr Elfyn’s poetry but some have been devised from words, such as place names or names of people, who are important to the collaborators. And while some of the paintings feature illustrations, many of them purely focus on the words, bringing words and images together.
The exhibition is at Oriel Myrddin, Carmarthen from tomorrow until February 18. Read more in today’s Western Mail
