School Facilities 

There are studio spaces for each Fine Art student, as well as fully equipped studios in clay-ceramics, wood, painting, plaster and sculpting workshops. Each workshop space is equipped with a wide range of tools, and students have access to professional quality materials.

Digital aspects of Fine Art are housed within the Media Lab, giving opportunity for students to engage in 2D, 3D, and moving image artwork. The rooms have modern digital visulisation and colour printing facilities including: A4 laser, and 24” and 44” wide museum quality printers.

Apple Mac lab facilities containing some of latest dual core i-Macs, as well as Mac Pro towers enable students to have an industry standard experience. Each machine has industry standard software installed and is capable of recording film and media content onto CD-Rs and DVD-Rs.

Apple Mac Pro towers have dual monitors and run Final Cut Pro for video editing from a range of sources including high definition.

There is a wide range of facilities for film making including:

  • Fig Rigs
  • Steadicam
  • Camera Jib
  • Lights
  • Portable and studio green screens
  • Solid State audio recorders
  • DVD Recorders

Films can be edited Final Cut Studio. Final Cut studio includes Final Cut Pro for video editing and DVD Studio Pro for professional DVDs, as well as other post-production software. Final Cut is widely used in the film and television industry by companies such as 20th Century Fox and the BBC.

The recently refurbished recording and editing studio uses a digital multi-track mixing desk, 88-key hammer action digital keyboard, and industry standard microphones to provide a realistic experience. 

Software for media production include:

  • Flash
  • Dreamweaver
  • Maya

Other taught software includes:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Pro-Tools

The Macs also have Microsoft Office installed to allow compatibility with students’ written work from other PCs. Teaching spaces also provide wireless access for laptop and smart phone users.

All equipment is frequently upgraded to provide the most comprehensive and industry lead experience for students. There is a media demonstrator who is available to assist with projects and to give advice from industry and practical experience.

Additional Teaching Facilities

The school has a range of facilities for viewing digital content including a large LCD high definition screen with Blu-ray player and an Apple TV HD wireless media viewer.

Teaching takes place in a variety of locations including studio spaces, multimedia lecture theatres, seminar rooms and workshops. There are frequent visits to art galleries, festivals, and arts events.
