Research and scholarship is at the heart of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The University prioritises the development of the knowledge economy and all academic staff are encouraged to contribute to the economic vitality and regeneration of the region through the dissemination of research, scholarship and best professional practice.
The University is developing a reputation for working collaboratively with business, industry, government and other partners to deliver innovative solutions to address identified problems. Researchers are encouraged to demonstrate the benefits of their work to the economy, society, public policy, culture and quality of life in order to ensure that the research makes a valuable contribution to the wider world and for our society as a whole.
The research of many members of staff was recognised as world leading within the most recent national assessment of research quality, the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.
15% of activity in the Archaeology, History & Anthropology research cluster was identified as “world-leading” in terms of its originality, significance and rigour, whilst 90% of activity in Theology & Religious Studies was considered to be of international quality. Classics also performed well with a high percentage of early career researchers. A young, energetic school, Classics is establishing an international reputation for its research.
The research strategy of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David focuses on research clusters in Classics, Education, Heritage, and Theology, Religious and Islamic Studies with multidisciplinary networks considering contemporary Welsh culture, creativity, innovation and design, and the University’s Special Collections. Externally funded and applied research focusing on policy formulation includes the areas of public service, rural health and social care, rural and social sustainability and heritage.
