Roderic Bowen Library and Archives

Using the Roderic Bowen Library and Archives

The Roderic Bowen Library and Archives houses one of the most important collections of rare books and manuscripts in Wales. To help ensure the preservation of material in the Roderic Bowen Library for future generations, please observe the following rules while working here:

  • No food or drink is to be brought into the reading room.
  • Pencils only are to be used at all times. Pencils may be purchased from the circulation counter in the Main Library.
  • Please use the book supports and rests when consulting material.
  • Exercise great care in using books and manuscripts. Any marking or defacement of the material will be treated very seriously. Please try to avoid marking furniture in any way.
  • We do not generally insist on the use of white gloves, but please ensure that your hands are clean and dry when handling material.
  • Due to the fragile nature of the material, no photocopying is not permitted (including reference books). Digital photographs suitable for personal study may be provided for a fee.
  • Please switch mobile phones to silent and keep conversation to a minimum.
  • Bags, umbrellas and coats should be left with the Reading Room supervisor.

The reading room is supervised at all times. The Reading Room supervisor will be pleased to answer any questions. Toilet facilities are available in the Main Library. Refreshment facilities are available in the Refectory, opposite the main entrance of the Arts Building.
