New Chair of Classics at Trinity Saint David

The University is delighted that Professor Michael Edwards has joined the Faculty of Humanities after more than five years of distinguished service as the Director of the Institute of Classical Studies, which is part of the School of Advanced Study in the University of London and the foremost research institute and library within the field of Classics in Europe.
Classics has been taught at Trinity Saint David since the opening of St David’s College in 1822, making it the senior Classics department in Wales.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Medwin Hughes says:
“I am pleased that we have been able to make such an excellent appointment. Professor Edwards brings with him a wealth of experience and scholarly expertise, which will prove invaluable as the University continues to evolve and prosper.”
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Edwards says:
“My appointment as Chair of Classics is a great honour for me. I am very much looking forward to making a significant contribution to the development of Trinity Saint David as a centre of research excellence in the humanities.”
Professor Edwards is an international expert in oratory and a member of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric. He is also the editor of a number of journals, including the Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies and Rhetorica.
Professor Edwards has taken up the role of Head of the School of Classics and will be particularly developing the School’s research profile. Other Interests include Chelsea football club, horse-riding and of course rugby.
