Iwan Bala joins academic staff
Renowned artist Iwan Bala has joined the staff of Trinity’s School of Creative Arts and Humanities. Iwan will be lecturing primarily on the BA Fine Art and will be responsible for developing Welsh medium provision within the School.
Iwan Bala’s career as one of Wales’ foremost artists is well documented. He has exhibited his work at venues around the world and was the resident artist at the National Gallery in Zimbabwe in 1990. He is a founder member of The Artists' Project, a member of Beca and the Ysbryd/Spirit groups of painters and is a winner of the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. An experienced commentator and academic, Iwan has published several books including his latest entitled Hon: Ynys y Galon (Gomer). The book explores the cultural landscape of Wales, with ninety-nine images of Iwan's paintings and assemblages, and poems by Mererid Hopwood, Iwan Llwyd and Twm Morys, as well as essays by Jon Gower, Dr Sioned Davies, John Meirion Morris and Siân Melangell Dafydd. Iwan says "It's been a good year, with the launch of this book in August, purchase of a series of work by the National Museum of Wales, the broadcasting of a TV Documentary on S4C in the Autumn, and a new career here at Trinity, my cup runneth over!"
