Get recognition for what you know- free interactive workshop to support staff development in the workplace
Trinity Saint David University is holding a free interactive workshop to support staff development in the workplace at the Village Hotel, Swansea on 1 November 2011.
Mentoring our Workforce (MoW) and LATERAL projects are fully funded ESF projects which were launched by Trinity Saint David earlier this year.
Dr Elsie Reynolds from Trinity Saint David says:
“Valuing staff is an important facet of growing any business in this challenging economic climate. Work-based learning is the ideal solution to recognise and accredit employees’ skills as it enables staff to gain relevant and quality assured learning and qualifications while limiting the time they spend away from the workplace.”

Note to Editor
- The MoW project is designed to encourage individuals within businesses to explore the benefits of mentoring. This is done through completing a 20 credit module which involves researching, designing and implementing a mentoring process, that meets the business and cultural needs of their company / organisation. The project aims to leave the legacy of a bespoke mentoring process within the business.
- In the first 7 months since its initial launch, MoW has reached 42% of its 3 year target and is proving a popular choice with those looking to improve their own skills and knowledge whilst also benefiting their employer
- The LATERAL project is designed to help individuals within the workforce gain University level credit for the learning they achieve whilst working. Today’s workforce are continuously challenged to develop high level skills in a changing and challenging work environment. It is possible that the learning achieved in order to respond to these challenges can be used to gain university level credit which can then contribute towards a qualification. Credit is claimed by the individual and involves identifying personal learning and reflection on practice. Regulations allow up that up to two thirds of an award may be credited through prior learning. Through this process and the identification of further professional development a different ‘eductional’ experience is provided for non-traditional learners and the learning undertaken and achieved in the workplace is valued. A number of businesses and their workers have already responded positively to this opportunity. Again, this project is proving very popular, with 43 students enrolling to date.
- Both projects (on successful completion) result in the award of University credits, which the individual can put towards a recognised qualification such as a BA, Postgaduate Certificate / Diploma or an MA.
