Student success at film festival
13.06.2011
Film students from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are celebrating their success at the Inspire Film Festival in Staffordshire last weekend.
Richard Beecher’s dissertation by practice film Twm Sion Cati: Polishing the Welsh Stone was shortlisted and won Best Documentary. Richard’s film then went on to win Best of the Festival.Alongside his success, Liam Leeson saw his final year project Kryptonite, a music video set around the streets of Carmarthen screened at the Festival.
Inspire Film Festival was open to schools, further and higher education students, and included film screenings, practical workshops, culminating in a glittering awards ceremony on Sunday evening.
The films showcased at the festival demonstrated the professionalism and creativity fostered on the media courses at Trinity Saint David, qualities that have helped a number of students from these courses move on into jobs in film and television.
Laurence Hall is a Media Lecturer at the University:
"Both Liam and Richard's films were 1st class pieces of work, and it was a real honour to see that their productions had been not only selected to be screened at the festival, but in Richards case, to be in competition.
“For Richard to then go on to win not only in his category Best Documentary Film but also Best of the Festival has made the whole school really proud and I hope that his success goes on to "inspire" future digital film production students."
