Côr y Drindod Dewi Sant Make it to Semi-Final Rounds of S4C’s Côr Cymru

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David choir, Côr y Drindod Dewi Sant has made it through to the semi-final rounds of S4C’s Côr Cymru 2011.

The semi-finals will be held at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre on the weekend 4 to 6 March, 2011 with highlights broadcast on S4C on the following weekend, 12 and 13 March.

Competing in the Youth Choirs category along with Côr y Drindod Dewi Sant, will be Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal, from Cardiff; Côr Hŷn Glanaethwy and Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion

Members of Côr y Drindod  Dewi Sant  include students from various courses coming together to perform and compete. They are no strangers to the S4C’s Côr Cymru competiton having won this category back in 2007 with their conductor Eilir Owen Griffiths and they are hoping to do it again.

Eilir Owen Griffiths, Music tutor at the University and conductor of Côr y Drindod Dewi Sant says:

“We are delighted to have made it through to the semi-final. The choir has worked hard to get to this stage and look forward to the competition.”

The winners in each category will receive a £1,500 prize and will go on to compete against each other in the final, with and additional £5,000 prize for the winners. The final round will be held on Sunday 10 April at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre and broadcast live on S4C.
