Video Conferencing

Through a live TV link, video conferencing allows you to hold face-to-face meetings between groups of people at two or more locations. Everyone can see and hear what is going on, almost as if in the same room.

There are two state of the art Video Conferencing studios situated in Lampeter. These were set up in July 2001 and are part of the Welsh Video Network (WVN).

How Does It Work?

The main conference cabinet shows pictures from the other centres on large screen colour displays. Cameras mounted in the room pick up the images of the people seated at the conference. Pictures and sound signals are simultaneously transmitted to the screens in the other centre(s).

Equipment for the studios, provided includes:

  • A studio equipment control
  • A videoconferencing CODEC incorporating both ISDN and IP
  • Two remote control cameras and a document camera
  • Monitors, Microphones, VCR
  • Data & Application Sharing facilities
  • Projector and Interactive electronic whiteboard
  • IP (H.323) compatible

ISDN Network For outside organisations

A dial in facility is available using an ISDN network. To connect this system the external site will require an ISDN telephone line and a video conferencing unit, which has the ability to transfer sound and video information.
