Study Abroad

Coast, Wales, United Kingdom Deciding where to go for your Study Abroad Program is a huge decision, and is one that could change your life! Not only is it an opportunity for you to get an international perspective on your studies, you will also learn about a different culture, history and way of life. Wales is a great place to spend this precious time in your educational career.

The Study Abroad program will, of course, provide you with sound academic knowledge, but it is also structured to enable you to enjoy the rich diversity of cultural and social experiences available to you in Wales and at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Introduction

Our Study Abroad Programme began in Carmarthen in 1976 and, since then, the University has welcomed over 1,200 American students to the campus from over 40 colleges and universities in the USA either on study abroad or for full-time undergraduate study.  Many American students have taken advantage of their stay in Wales to travel around other countries in Europe, including, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy and Spain.

You may choose from a variety of courses at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David but are advised to select those based on either the Carmarthen or Lampeter campus.  Full details of the courses available are provided in our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.

In addition students may choose to take the following course, which is specific to the Study Abroad Programme on the Carmarthen campus:

Wales and Welsh History
This is an opportunity to learn about Wales from its Celtic origins to the present day. It will place Wales within the context of the UK, Europe and the wider world. Students will learn about Wales’ unique culture and heritage and will also have the opportunity to learn Welsh if they wish.

Internships are also available - please contact the International Office for more information on possible placement opportunities.

At the beginning of the program, our professors will introduce each of the courses to you, so that you can decide which ones appeal to you most. Once you have chosen between 12-17 hours of classes, the International Office will fax the information with the syllabi to your home institution. Upon completion of the Study Abroad Program, you and your institution will be provided with a transcript.

How to apply

Welsh Patch

To apply please fill in the international application form and return it with:

  • A statement of why you want to be considered for the program
  • Two faculty recommendations from your home institution
  • Transcript of grades from your home institutions
  • Approval for you to study abroad from Study Abroad Advisor or Dean of Student Life
  • Two passport sized photographs.
