Postgraduate Programmes
About the programmes
Taught postgraduate and research programmes offered are validated by the University of Wales.
Taught Masters’ degrees offered at the University include Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Ministry (MMin) and Master of Theology (MTh).
Studying a taught Master’s comprises a combination of lectures, tutor-led discussion groups and seminars, self-directed study and research as well as individual tutor support. A Master’s degree is awarded on the completion of 120 credits for the taught element of the courses, and 60 credits for a 20,000 word dissertation - usually on a subject related to the student’s own interest and career aspiration, and by negotiation with the dissertation supervisor. The Master of Ministry requires completion of 180 taught credits.
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) are research programmes that are awarded for the completion of an original piece of research.
Entry requirements
A good standard of education and a first degree in a relevant subject is usually required for entry to a
Master’s programme. However, it is not always necessary to have majored in the subject of the Master’s Programme.
A Masters degree is usually required for admission direct to a PhD, although students without a Master’s degree can initially register for an MPhil and upgrade to a PhD if progress is deemed satisfactory.
International students applying for study at postgraduate level will normally be required to show evidence of sufficient command of the English language to be able to follow their course, undertake research and produce writing without major linguistic difficulties. For example, this is usually the Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency Certificate, IELTS minimum score of 6.5, TOEFL minimum score of 575, or TOEIC minimum score of 700.
