Information Services

The University recognises that Information Technology is an indispensable tool in the delivery and management of learning and is essential to support both the academic and administrative activities of the University.

For students, there are a number of strategically situated facilities on both campuses, managed by the Department of Knowledge and Information (DKI) support team, e.g. the ground floor of Dewi building, and in Learning Zones like Y Cwad on the Carmarthen campus; and at Lampeter in the Library, as well as the four Computer Rooms in the Arts building (Red Room, Blue Room, the Language/GIS lab and the Macintosh Suite).  There are additional specialist facilities in some areas at Lampeter, e.g. in the Media Centre, in the School of Archaeology, History and Anthropology, and in the School of Business.

Access to networked facilities, including e-mail and the Internet, is made available to all students registered at the University. Rooms in campus-based halls of residence have been wired for computer network connectivity for those students seeking to use their own workstations. Network-capable devices that do not have a wired interface may be able to connect to the wireless network. Students seeking to use the wireless network on the Carmarthen campus will need to make separate registration.  Instructions for use of the wireless network at Lampeter will be given to you when you register.

Most PC workstations carry the standard University software set including Microsoft Office and a web browser. Additional course-specific software may be made available according to academic needs. There are also Macintosh systems; and a number of MacBooks (laptops) and Windows-based Laptops are available for loan from the Learning Resources Centre at both campuses.

Technical support is available during office hours and all requests are dealt with taking account of priority.
