BA Philosophy

About the Course

Download Philosophy Booklet

Our BA Philosophy programme is not about memorising facts and figures, it's about developing the skills to think clearly, to argue in a structured and methodical way, to present a position forcefully and concisely, and to recognise and accommodate a variety of counter-arguments.

Once developed, these 'transferable skills' will become invaluable whether you decide to use them in further study or on your chosen career path.

The majority of our students opt to take the Single Honours BA Philosophy programme. Single Honours students take almost all of their modules in one particular area of study, so Single Honours Philosophy students take almost all of their modules in Philosophy.

Also popular is a Joint Honours programme, where students take around half of their modules in Philosophy and the other half in another discipline (for example English, or Theology, or Classics etc). For details of the Joint Honours programmes available, see below.

For further information on the financial and professional value of the skills that you will develop through your study of Philosophy, please see Philosophy and your career.
