BA (Hons) Creative Writing

About the Course

Creative Writing is taught through workshops and seminars that will develop your creativity and encourage you to experiment with form and pattern. Access to a VLE enables additional learning, especially workshopping, to take place outside the sessions. Modules will introduce you to the specialised writing of poetry, prose narrative and drama.

Year one also includes study skills, and the study of literature and literary theory to develop contextual skills that feed into your future degree work; years two and three require the production of progressively more demanding writing projects aiming towards completion of a substantial piece of work under the supervision of an experience published writer.

All modules aim to develop skills of storytelling and narrative, rewriting, editing, drafting and self-criticism, writing and gender, and writing and class.

Modules also introduce students to the business aspects of writing by introducing them to professionals in the field and exploring the vocational application of a degree in creative writing.
