Performance and Visual Arts Focus
Not only was the Confucius Institute the first to be established in Wales, but it is also the first among its 12 sister CIs across the UK to develop a special focus within the field of visual and performing arts. This is now reflected in our being situated within the Faculty of Arts and Social Studies of the new University.
Our specialism in performance and visual arts started last year when we marked the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, with the launch of the first ever China Classic Film Festival , where cinemas across the length and breadth of Wales screened some of China’s most outstanding films. In November we hosted the Nanjing Traditional Instruments Orchestra on tour from China. In February, the Heilongjiang dance and martial arts group entertained a packed Arts Hall for the Chinese New year. And this year promises more exciting cultural events.
