Nordic children’s cultural expressions: inspired by folk story narratives and the spirit of landscape

Kari-Anne Jorgensen

His presentation is based on works in a field of practice in a Nordic cross national study for pre-school students from four University Colleges from Denmark, Faeroe Islands, Finland and Norway. The name of the study is Nordic children’s cultural expression. In the Norwegian module of the study two disciplines were involved , Norwegian language and physical education. We worked outdoors with the experiences of the landscape and storytelling based on Norwegian folk stories and myths.

Seeing landscapes as poetic is a way of reflecting the qualities not by measurable effects but by how the landscape has a topos that gives meaning and inspiration for imagination, play and storytelling. From the experiences of this project we may find a discourse challenging our traditional way of thinking and teaching a different curricula in teacher education.

Focus of the presentation is how situated learning in the outdoors can create dynamic and meaningful learning processes by combining our cultural heritage of folk stories and myths with the spirit of the landscapes.
